Environment, Sustainability & Society (ESS) can be a Major or Minor in a diversity of degree programs, and the College also offers multiple sustainability Certificate programs. Check out the different options!

ESS Major and Minor requirements

View the pages below for information about completing a Major, Honours, or Minor in ESS in different degree programs. If you changed degree programs at Dal, visit the page for the degree that you intend to complete. For example, if you changed from the BA degree to the BSc degree, visit the page for the BSc.

Certificates offered by the College of Sustainability

Do you want to study Environment, Sustainability & Society (ESS) but aren't sure you can fit it into your degree as a Major, Honours or Minor subject? Or perhaps you want to add an additional sustainability credential to your record? The College of Sustainability offers the following certificate options:

  • Certificate in ESS
  • Certificate in Communicating Sustainability
  • Certificate in Food, Agriculture, and Sustainability
  • RBC Sustainability Leadership Certificate
